LA IPA Fest 2014 Tap List – What You Need To Know
We’re all well aware that the LA IPA Fest 2014 is coming up this weekend and we’re all REAL excited, right? Of course we are here at Hopped LA because hoppy ass brews are what we’re all about. As it turns out, so are you. And if you’re one of those people that looked at the recently unveiled tap list and wondered how to navigate, you’re not alone. Here’s the LA IPA Fest 2014 Tap List with notes on the beers that you must have.
LA IPA Fest 2014 Tap List
21st Amendment – Brew Free or Die IPA
Bagby Beer Co – Dork Squad
We’re calling out this Oceanside, CA IPA for the dank aroma and piney flavor. If your palate is on point, you may even taste a little grapefruit.
Brewery at Abigaile – TBA
Alesmith – Alesmith IPA
Alpine – Nelson
Anderson Valley – Hop Ottin’
Anchor – Zymaster #7 Potrero Hill Sour Mash IPA
Ballast Point – Sculpin
Beach City Brewery – Kickout IPA
Beachwood BBQ & Brewing – Resinator IPA
I love what Beachwood does with IPAs and this one is no different. They are packing in Chinook, Warrior, Simcoe, Amarillo, and a secret experimental variety of hops into this West Coast style leaving it with plenty of resin-y aromatics and 99+ IBUs.
Bear Republic – Racer 5
Bottle Logic – Recursion
Bravery Brewing + Transplants Brewing – Plant Trance IPA
Cellarmaker – Hop Killah
Cismontane – Hop Dumpster
Coronado Brewing – Islander
Drake’s Brewing – 7X70
Eagle Rock Brewery – Populist
El Segundo Brewing Co. – Mayberry IPA
El Segundo’s Mayberry IPA delivers on color, aroma, and taste. This beer is nice on the eyes with its bronze-orange color, and your first inhale of a floral bouquet aroma will give you evidence of juicy, tropical notes. Once you taste, the evidence becomes conclusive.
Faction Brewing – Fall IPA
Firestone Walker – Union Jack
Golden Road Brewing – Wolf Among Weeds
Green Flash – Soul Style
Hangar 24 – Betty IPA
Highland Park Brewery – Neon IPA
Full disclosure: I haven’t had Neon IPA yet, BUT Highland Park Brewery really nailed it with their 1Up IPA. That alone will make me want to try this one and see if this brewery is on the right track.
Institution Ales – Institution IPA
Ironfire – 51/50
Iron Springs – JC Flyer
Island Brewing – Island IPA
Karl Strauss – Tower 10
Kern River Brewing – Just Outstanding
Kinetic Brewing – Hops Angeles
Their attempt at the ubiquitous West Coast Style in their Propulsion IPA left me wanting more, and Hops Angeles might be the answer. This up-and-coming brewery is one to look out for.
King Harbor – El Azaccorado
Ladyface Ale Companie – Ladyface IPA
Lagunitas – Lagunitas Sucks
Lost Abbey – Merry Taj
Magnolia Brewery – Proving Ground
Modern Times – Blazing World
Monkey Paw – Lab Monkey
Mother Earth – BooKoo
Noble Ale Works – I Love It!
This is another one I’ll be trying on Saturday, because Noble is the reigning champ from last year’s LA IPA Fest , and they almost always hit it out of the park whenever they brew a special IPA. And with a name like “I Love It!”…how can you not?
Ohana Brewing – Hashtag Hops
Pizza Port Bressi Ranch – Barney
Pizza Port Carlsbad — Raceway IPA
Pizza Port Ocean Beach — The Burning of Rome
Pizza Port San Clemente — El Camino IPA
Pizza Port Solana Beach – Citra-R-Ama
Wait a minute, did I just hear “Citra”? You betcha. Five Pizza Port locations are bringing up the goods, but Solana Beach knows how to bring Hopped LA to its knees. This citra-focused IPA pours a nice golden color and packs an aroma that screams…you guessed it: citrus. Don’t expect to get hit with much malt or sweetness. This baby finishes dry.
Port Brewing – Wipeout
Russian River Brewing – Pliny the Elder
Santa Clara Valley – Electric Tower
Smog City Brewing – Hop Tonic
Societe Brewing – The Pupil
Speakeasy – Big Daddy
St. Archer – St. Archer IPA
Stone Brewing – Lupulin Loop
This single-hop IPA series is making a welcomed appearance at this year’s IPA Fest and for good reason. They’re pretty damn good. I’m a big fan of the single-hopped style and am looking forward to seeing which varietal they chose for this festival.
Tap It – Tap It IPA
Telegraph – Telegraph IPA
Three Weav3rs – Expatriate IPA
I have to give the shout out to Three Weav3rs, because we’re big fans of the direction the brewery is heading. Their Stateside Session IPA is phenomenal, and the Expatriate is up there too. If you haven’t been exposed to this brewery yet, now is the time.
Tustin Brewing – Old Town
Wicks Brewing – Battle Cry IPA
Wolf Creek Brewery – Lone Wolf
Sierra Nevada – Neomexicanus
