The winners of the 2017 Great American Beer Festival‘s annual beer competition were announced this morning and we’re stoked that seven (technically six) awesome Los Angeles breweries are taking home medals this year!
The GABF competition is put on by the Brewer’s Association and is one of the most competitive and highly acclaimed of all the the beer competitions in the United States. As a brewery, being recognized for your beer at this level is a great honor and is no easy feat. This year saw 7,923 different beers brewed by 2,217 different breweries being judged across 98 different categories. No walk in the park! Here’s the list of LA brewery winners:
Gold
American-Style Black Ale: Hoppa Emeritus by Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach
Silver
German-Style Koelsch: Seafarer by Three Weavers Brewing Co in Inglewood
Australian-Style or International-Style Pale Ale: Pure Intention Pale Ale by HopSaint Brewing Co in Torrance
Munich-Style Helles: Solar by Sanctum Brewing Co in Pomona
Bronze
Chili Beer: Dia de los Mangos by Beachwood Blendery in Long Beach
English-Style India Pale Ale: Jacaranda Rye IPA by Claremont Craft Ales in Claremont
Field Beer: Spa Water Saison by Ohana Brewing Co in DTLA
Congratulations to all the winners and participating breweries. While winning a medal at GABF is a great accomplishment, it is by no means a prerequisite for brewing great beer. So while you’re out there drinking some of these 2017 GABF award-winning beers, you should also be purchasing beers from the dozens of other LA breweries out there as well.
