The Los Angeles Brewery Medal Winners from the 2020 Great American Beer Festival Awards

The winners of the 2020 Great American Beer Festival‘s annual beer competition were announced this afternoon and we’re stoked that eight awesome Los Angeles breweries are taking home medals this year!

The GABF competition is put on by the Brewer’s Association and is one of the most competitive and highly acclaimed of all the beer competitions in the United States. As a brewery, being recognized for your beer at this level is a great honor and is no easy feat. This year saw 8,806 different beers brewed by 1,720 different breweries being judged across 170 different categories. No walk in the park! Here’s the list of LA brewery winners:

Gold

American-Style Black Ale or American-Style Stout: Wookey Jack by Firestone Walker Propagator in Venice

Belgian-Style Lambic or Sour Ale: Funk Yeah by Beachwood Blendery in Long Beach

English Mild or Bitter: Deep Roots by Three Weavers Brewing in Inglewood

Experimental India Pale Ale: Pepper & Peaches by Claremont Craft Ales in Claremont

Imperial India Pale Ale: Hammerland by El Segundo Brewing in El Segundo

Strong Red Ale: Happy Days by Claremont Craft Ales in Claremont

Silver

Belgian-Style Witbier: Boeman by Ogopogo Brewing in San Gabriel

Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer: Bourbon Barrel-Aged Big Game by Bravery Brewing in Lancaster

Bronze

Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale: Sugar on My Tongue by Highland Park Brewery in Chinatown

Strong Red Ale: Devil’s Path by El Segundo Brewing in El Segundo

Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer: Barrel-Aged Full Malted Jacket by Beachwood Brewing in Long Beach

Congratulations to ALL the winners and participating breweries. While winning a medal at GABF is a great accomplishment, it is by no means a prerequisite for brewing great beer. It just goes to show how robust the Southern California craft brewing community is now, and how far Los Angeles has come as a compelling craft beer destination.

So while you’re out there drinking some of these 2020 Great American Beer Festival Competition award-winning beers around Los Angeles, you should also be purchasing beers from the dozens of other awesome LA breweries out there as well.
