This Week in LA Beer: Ciders & Super Bowl (Jan 27th – Feb 2nd)
Welcome to This Week in LA Beer, a bite-sized look at some of the things we think are worth paying attention to this week around the Los Angeles craft beer community. This is the first edition that we’re publishing on our website, so for everyone who clicked through, welcome! Let’s get into it.
7th Annual Los Angeles IPA Festival.
The 7th Annual Los Angeles IPA Festival is coming up on Saturday, February 29th and we couldn’t be more stoked!
This is one of the premier hoppy event of the year and exclusively features some of the best West Coast IPAs produced in the state of California, all under one roof.
It’s all going down at Mohawk Bend in Echo Park on 2/29. No tickets need, just show up and drink great beer. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Long Beach gets its first cidery.
Ficklewood Ciderworks is the newest spot to open in LA, and while it isn’t a brewery, it is a legit cidery opened by two next-door neighbor home cider-makers. The place looks cool, the ciders sound and look delicious, and they just celebrated their grand opening a few days ago.
Located in the Downtown Long Beach area, you should check them out and let us know what you think!
Juicy Brews Beach Party at Brouwerij West.
If you follow us anywhere, you’ve heard us talking about Hop Culture’s Juicy Brews fest that went down at Brouwerij West last Saturday. I sincerely hope you guys had the opportunity to attend because it was a really well-executed event featuring some of the best breweries that I’ve seen in one place outside of the Firestone Walker Invitational.
We put together some of our top picks from the fest and some photos.
Our release of the week.
As you know, our full Release Radar goes out on Fridays but on Tuesdays we like to give you a little sneak peek into one release that we’re really excited for.
This week, it’s Box Logo #8 DIPA by Mumford Brewing releasing in their taproom today (Tuesday). Box Logo is our favorite Mumford beer so get your hands on this one and let us know what you think. Your best bet is at their Little Tokyo/Arts District taproom but I could see this going into very limited distro (fingers crossed).
EVENTS ON TAP
Our beer event picks this week.
Wed 1/29 in Lincoln Heights
Barbara’s is putting together quite the dual tap takeover featuring some heavy hitters from Beachwood and Modern Times. Collabs, flagships, one-offs, this event has them all. If you’re into really great craft beer (and let’s face it – of course you are. You have a problem, admit it.), then you need to be at this one.
Fri 1/31 in Chinatown
Highland Park is hosting their Griffith Day where they release their renowned imperial stout along with a number of delicious variants. Limited bottles will be released as well, so if you want to get your hands on everything, head over to Chinatown at noon on Friday.
Sat 2/1 in Lomita
Burnin’ Daylight (one of our top new breweries in 2019) is celebrating their 1 year anniversary on Saturday with a little beer festival in Downtown Lomita. Expect some of the awesome beers, some great guest breweries, live music, food, a special can release, and more. Free admission so head down to Lomita and celebrate with them!
Drink good beer, wear good merch.
We’ve slashed prices on all our merch so we can make room for all the cool designers we’re working on. Yes, that means that the prices for our signature shirts that you’ve seen at beer fests around town are the LOWEST price that you’ll ever see them.
As always, drop that INSIDER5 discount code to grab your $5 off for being a part of this awesome newsletter.

WORK WITH US
Tell the story behind your beer.
We partner with breweries to produce videos that help tell the story behind your beer, your team, your brewing philosophy, and what makes you stand out among the crowded shelves and draft towers.
We then feature any content we create for you in a native promo campaign to our audience of craft beer enthusiasts in LA (50k/month).
If you’re interested in getting the word out about what makes your brewery unique, let’s chat. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to get in touch.
