The 13th Annual Woodshop Tasting at the Hi Hat!
The 13th official iteration of this annual bottle-sharing beer geek extravaganza, hosted by The Hi Hat.
The Woodshop Tasting is fashioned as an indulgent beer connoisseur’s beer festival and bottle-share. It was conceived as a sort of underground beer nerd event by a small group of longtime, dedicated LA-area beer lovers, and is designed to showcase the best of what the craft beer world can offer, both locally and globally.
General Admission tickets for Woodshop 13 are $79 : The event runs from 10AM to 5PM on Saturday, April 4 th . This ticket includes unlimited draft beer taster pours of over 20 different, specialty craft beers curated just for this event, plus one custom Woodshop snifter, and access to the bottle-share. The bottle-share includes artisanal cheese spreads, custom ice cream beer floats, blind tasting showdowns, and other special treats. This year, for food, we are keeping options open for you, in that we have a variety of pre-paid “Upgrade” options for amazing sandwiches, and we have also lined up an a la carte option of smash burgers from our good friends at Burgers Homage.
“Pastry Hour” Early Entry Admission tickets for Woodshop 13 are $99: “Pastry Hour” tickets allow for early entry to the party at 9AM, and include all the benefits of General Admission, plus first access to the limited draft selection of a few “Pastry Stouts” to help you ease into the day, as well as a delicious assortment of specialty breakfast pastries, and Trystero coffee.
“Howlin’ Upgrade” : For an additional $20 apiece, we are pleased once again to be able to provide a super-limited offering of Nashville medium hot chicken sandwiches from LA’s infamous Howlin’ Ray’s for a small number of attendees at the event. These sandwiches will be hand-delivered at about 10:30AM, straight from Howlin’ Ray’s in the Chinatown neighborhood of LA. If you don’t know Howlin’ Ray’s, check it out:
PLEASE NOTE: These are limited to 1/person. If you accidentally order more than 1 per person, please note that you will be scorned. And I will eat your extra sandwich(es). Maybe even your original one too.
“Wax Paper Upgrades” : For an additional $20 apiece, we also have some other fantastic sandwich options for your lunch, provided by the illustrious Wax Paper. These sandwiches will be delivered a little bit later, around 12:00-ish (after the Howlin’ Ray’s run). If you don’t know Wax Paper, they are basically the best damn deli sandwiches you can imagine. This is our first time featuring their food at Woodshop, and we could not be more excited. Here are your optsch:
Ira Glass – Quite possibly The Greatest Vegetarian Sandwich On Earth. Avocado, cucumber, sprouts, pickled & raw red onion, Tillamook cheddar cheese, and garlic aioli on seeded wheat bread.
Ophira Eisenberg – Black Forest ham, honey-walnut aioli, pickled plum-black garlic vin, shaved green onion, and spicy roasted walnut crunch on baguette.
Steve Julian – Roasted & shredded pork, miso aioli, jalapeno vin, cilantro, pickled carrot & daikon, and cucumber on baguette.
The core Woodshop 13 event is a bottle-share with an embarrassment of riches in the form of 20+ carefully selected draft beer offerings as a backdrop. These kegs will include several special Woodshop-exclusive, one-off kegs, plus the best beers around in a variety of styles. For the bottle-share proper, as always, we encourage all guests to bring a bottle or few (or more) of the best beers from your cellar to share with any and all in attendance. We like to think of this tasting as a perfect occasion to sample those special bottles you’ve been saving for just the right moment.
Woodshop is a private, ticketed event, but basically, if you *know* about it, you’re invited. So please feel free to pass along information about the party to any friends you know who would embrace the spirit of the event, who are enthusiastic about the craft beer community, and who are curious to experience the best of what the beer world can be. Every year, the crowd consists of a good percentage of repeat Woodshop attendees, but also every year there is a sizable turnover of “new blood” whose eyes are opened and minds are blown, and who are vital to the energy and passion of the day.
Custom Woodshop 13 t-shirts (Gildan brand) are available for $20 pre-paid.
