Brews Brothers Opens Up Burbank Brewpub

When Simmzy’s Burbank location shut down last July, Valley residents lost a major hub of craft beer activity. But that void is now filled with the opening of Brews Brothers Brewpub, a 25 tap bar and restaurant in the old Simmzy’s space. It’s the second location of the popular North Hollywood bar. Though they’ve been up and running since April, they are hosting a grand opening on Tuesday, July 27th, to debut their first two house-brewed beers.

Unlike Simmzy’s (which mostly carried house-brewed beer), Brews Brothers will primarily highlight rotating seasonal beers from local favorites like Beachwood Brewing, Brouwerij West, and Five Threads. They’ve also got some unique options, including a bunch of specialty sours, and an entire section of their menu dedicated to Belgian strong ales, a favorite style of the owners.

This will also be the first time they’ll be brewing their own beer – they’re taking advantage of the seven-barrel brewhouse left behind from Simmzy’s. First up are a Belgian golden ale and their Oatmeal Cookie brown ale – both will be on tap this week.

The titular brothers are Billie and Joey Anderson, twins who are longtime veterans of the LA beer scene. In 2006, they helped open Lucky Devil’s, one of Hollywood’s first beer bars. Since then, the Andersons have spent almost a decade at Stout Burgers & Beers. They finally struck out on their own to open the Noho Brews Brothers in 2018.

Though the frame for the new location was there when they moved in earlier this year, Billie and Joey built the Burbank bar from the ground up – hand-building all the tables and chairs for both indoor and outdoor seating. The team also hopes to expand the bar to 42 taps in the coming months.
