Events on Tap: LA Craft Beer Events the Week of February 22, 2016
Here at Hopped LA, we keep our ear to the ground to discover all of the coolest beer events going around Los Angeles. But just because we can’t go to all of them, doesn’t mean you can’t! Below find a list of the craft beer events we’ve found for the week of Monday February 22nd to Sunday February 28th, 2016.

Tuesday February 23
Pliny the Younger at The Crow Bar & Kitchen
Corona Del Mar, 11:30am
The Crow in Corona Del Mar is bringing PTY back again this year with a ticketing system that could get you the chance to grab 2 pours if you show up early enough. Ticket sales start at 11:30am and if you’re one of the first 50 people in line, you get a chance to buy 2 tickets. After that they’ll be selling individual tickets until they sell out. The Younger taps at 1:30pm and ticket holders can come anytime between then and 4pm to redeem their pour. They’ll also have other Russian River brews as well as Hopslam in case you miss out on the Pliny.
Pliny the Younger at Tony’s Darts Away
Pliny the Younger is finally hitting the San Fernando Valley at Tony’s Darts Away. At 12pm, they will start distributing tickets on a first come first serve basis. You will be assigned a group with a time to come back for your PtY pour with group numbers being called approximately every 30 minutes. Your options include a 6oz. pour for $6.75, or a 6oz. pour plus a specialty “I Got Younger at Tony’s” glass for $10. Go for the glass.
Pliny the Younger at Eureka! Burger
Eureka is tapping their keg of Pliny the Younger on Tuesday at 3pm. BUT the $9 tickets will start being sold as early at 8am, so you might want to get there early to secure your pour. The first 60 people in line after 8am get the chance to come back after 3pm with their ticket and receipt to redeem their pour.
An Evening with Coronado Brewing at Far Bar
Little Tokyo, 7pm
Heading up from San Diego, Coronado Brewing is crashing Far Bar for a night of unique and rare beers. The tap list is subject to change, but it seems like they are putting on Barrel Aged Stupid Stout, Seaside IPA, Sea Lady Black Lager, Sock Knocker DIPA, Mermaid’s Red, and Idiot IPA with Mango.
Wednesday February 24
Pliny the Younger at Tustin Brewing Co.
Tustin Brewing Co has learned from their years of tapping Pliny the Younger, and it shows with their organized process. At 10am, they’ll be giving out bracelets to everyone in line. If you get a bracelet, that means you get the opportunity to buy an $8 ticket for an 8 ounce pour. They don’t tap the keg til 3pm, so once you get your ticket, you can hang around the brewery, or leave and come back later that day for your Pliny the Younger pour. Simple, neat, easy, and delicious.
Mac and Cheese Night at The Rookery
If you like craft beer and like mac and cheese, then enjoy the best of both of those worlds at The Rookery, where they will be offering 4 different kind of mac and cheese. Not a bad combo if you ask us.
Hopslam Release at Beachwood
Long Beach, 5pm
Hopslam has been making its way around LA, and now it’s Beachwood’s turn. Not only are they tapping Hopslam, but they are also putting on Bell’s Two Hearted Ale and Smitten Golden Rye Ale. If you haven’t had Hopslam before, we recommend you get on that.
Jeffers Drops Acid at Naja’s Place (SOLD OUT)
Redondo Beach, 5:15pm
Firestone Walker Barrelworks’ very own Jeffers Richardson is conducting an intimate experience and dropping some knowledge on the acidity levels of sour beer. This ticketed event only went out to 25 lucky people, so if that includes you, have a great time!
Firestone Walker Tap Takeover at Darryl’s Couch
Firestone Walker is invading Darryl’s Couch this time around, and while the tap list hasn’t been announced yet, we’re pretty confident that FW fans will be happy with the selection.
Three Weavers Pairing Dinner at Boneyard Bistro
Sherman Oaks, 5:30pm
We’d like to say that anytime you’re pairing a meal with Three Weavers it’s going to be good. We feel no different about what the chef is serving up at Boneyard Bistro alongside the solid offering of 3W beers. Get your fix of Pork Belly “Bahn Mi” paired with The Messenger and Petite Filet “Cheesesteak” paired with Blood Junkie among others.
Celebrate Fe-BRUE-ary at Library Alehouse
Santa Monica, 6pm
If you’re on the Westside on Wednesday, you’ll be treated to quite the takeover by The Bruery. Get your hands on beers like Juggling Walruses (dark sour with currants), Rueuze (gueuze-style sour), Humulus Terreux, and more!
Steal the Glass Night at Eureka Tasting Kitchen
Steal the Glass Night is back at Eureka featuring Almanac Brewing’s Farmer’s Reserve Citrus and Peach de Brettaville. Time to add another pint glass to your growing collection!
Firestone Walker Tap Takeover at Naja’s Place
Redondo Beach, 7pm
If you missed the one-on-one experience with Jeffers and his Acid Trip, you won’t have to miss out on the beers or the man himself. This is actually one of the largest curations of Firestone Walker beers LA has seen with 21 different beers.
Thursday February 25
Firestone Walker Tap Takeover at Whole Foods El Segundo
El Segundo, 5pm
Firestone Walker fans in El Segundo get quite the treat with an array of awesome beers hitting the taps. Get ready for the 2012-2015 versions of Parabola, Helldorado, and 19th Anniversary. They will also be putting out some bottles for sale including Parabola, Sucaba, Stickee Monkee, Helldorado, Velvet Merkin, 19th Anniversary, and Agrestic.
Thursday Night Fight: Drake’s Hopocalypse vs. Faction Hop Soup at Select Beer Store
Redondo Beach, 5pm
Select is starting up some trouble with their new series pitting two great hoppy brews against each other. The first keg to blow makes it to the next round in the tournament, with the championship match coming in June during LA Beer Week. Head down to Redondo Beach on Thursday and cast your vote!
Chamber of High-Gravity Beers at Phantom Carriage
Phantom Carriage has put together a night for fans of horror films and high-gravity beers with a special screening of Barons Blood. Just in case you can’t make the 6pm showing, they are doing all over again at 8pm so you can get your fix.
Firestone Tap Takeover at Lordsburg Taphouse
La Verne, 6pm
That’s right, another Firestone tap takeover is happening and they are taking over 13 taps at Lordsburg Taphouse. They will be pouring Agrestic, 18th & 19th Anniversary, Stickee Monkee, and much more!
Pliny the Younger at The Surly Goat
West Hollywood, 6pm
The Surly Goat is tapping their keg of Pliny the Younger on Thursday 2/25 at 6pm, and you better believe a line will be forming well in advance of that. Luckily for those of you who participate in Surly’s Beer Passport Photo, you have an opportunity to get in earlier. Complete passport holders get in at 5pm, 60+ stamps get in at 5:15pm, 50+ stamps get in a 5:30pm, and 40+ stamps get in at 6:45pm. Then the rest of the line opens up at 6.
Avery Tap Takeover at The Local Peasant
Woodland Hills, 6pm
Representing for the West Valley is The Local Peasant and their upcoming Avery tap takeover on Thursday night. Beers that will be pouring include Joe’s Premium Pilsner, White Rascal, Liliko’i Kepolo, Raja, Vanilla Bean Stout, Tweak, and Pump[KY]n.
Coronado Brewing Pint Night at City Tavern DTLA
Another Coronado event is taking place this week, but this time it’s at City Tavern DTLA. They aren’t bringing too many, but they are making it count with Orange Ave Wit, Mermaid Red, Merbear, Sandstone IPA, and Bobblehead Imperial Red.
King Harbor Beer Dinner w/ Chef Jen Story
Redondo Beach, 6:30pm
To celebrate the release of their Coconut IPA, the crew at King Harbor summoned their friend Chef Jen Story to put together a delicious pairing at the brewery. With pairings such as Ponzu Roasted Tri-tip alongside the Coconut IPA and Underdone Double Chocolate Cake with Imperial Swirly, what can possibly go wrong?
Friday February 26
Twist & Stout – Tap Takeover at Buzz Wine Beer Shop
Buzz is hosting a stout-focused tap takeover featuring some really awesome dark beers, including Hug Me, a chocolate milk stout from Barley Forge, The Patsy, a coconut stout from Barley Forge (amazing beer!), Man’s Milk, a milk stout from Noble Ale Works, Bear Hug, an imperial stout from Bell’s, and Breakfast Stout, an imperial coffee stout from Founders.
Saturday February 27
Pliny the Younger at The Bottle Room
The Bottle Room in Whittier is throwing a few Russian River brews on tap on Saturday February 27th and one of those beers is in fact Pliny the Younger. They’re tapping at 10am, but if you want a pour, better get there early!
Brouwerij West Grand Opening
San Pedro, 12pm
The official grand opening of Brouwerij West has finally come and will be kicking things off with at least 8 beers available in the tap room. The courtyard will be open, brewery tours will be in full effect, and food trucks & music start at 5pm.
Beachwood Blendery Release & Weekend Opening
Long Beach, 2pm
Starting this weekend, the Beachwood Blendery tasting room will be open every Saturday from 2pm-9pm, and Sunday from 12pm-6pm. They will be kicking this off with a bottle release of Propagation Series 256 and 512 on Saturday at 2pm.
Sunday February 28
4th Annual Vegan Chili Cook-Off at Tony’s Darts Away
The Vegan Chili Cook-off has returned to Tony’s and the 5 incredible chefs are bringing the heat this time. Tickets are $10 and include 5 samples of chili (one from each chef) and a voting ballot for people’s choice award. The tickets will be available the day of the event and not in advance. The official hashtag is #TDAcookoff.
Bikes & Brews with Rev Cycle at Craft Beer Cellar
Eagle Rock, 12:15pm
Craft Beer Cellar is back with another edition of Bikes & Brews with their neighbors, Rev Cycle! Kick things off at 12:15 with an hour long cycling workout, then walk up the block to Craft Beer Cellar to enjoy a pint or a flight. Tickets are $25 and space is limited, so reserve your spot now!
The 2016 Academy Awards at Kinetic Brewing Co.
The 88th Academy Awards begin at 4pm on Sunday, and Kinetic is airing it live at the pub. They will make it interesting by including games and plenty of prizes, so ring in Best Picture with your favorite Kinetic brew.
